اردو ادب میں بابائے اردو کا لقب پانے والے عبدالحق ۲۰ اپریل ۱۸۷۰ کو برطانوی ہندوستان میرٹھ میں پیدا ہوئے۔. اس عہد کی روایت کے مطابق مولوی صاحب کی ابتدائی تعلیم ان کے گھر پر ہی ہوئی۔. بعد ازیں وہ میرٹھ میں پڑھتے رہے۔. مولوی صاحب نے تعلیم کو خود کے لئے لازم جانا اور علی گڑھ کالج سے بی اے کیا۔.
